This Week in Le Rock: April 21 - 27

RealityCheck_CoverArt.jpg Starting this week off right, The Teenagers are playing their sleazy Parisian pop music at The Independent on Tuesday night. Michael does vocals and plays the bass, Dorian does guitar, computers and vocals, and Quentin is the songwriter and lead vocalist. These three Parisian punks are still the foul-mouthed horny dudes they were when they were 13. Nothing has changed except for now they get to sing about sex instead of just talking about it. They even sing about their newest crush in their new hit, "Scarlet Johansson". You can win a spot on their guest list by entering below. Check your email today as the winner will be chosen before 4pm. Two of our favorite local bands will be opening: The Frail and LoveLikeFire. Both bands are super hot and LoveLikeFire's music video, "I Will" was the "Official Selection of SXSW 2008 Film Festival." We've got inside information that they'll be performing new material as well! The best part of the night: SonicLiving and The Owl Mag will be giving away free beer from 8:30-9:30pm with a drink ticket. All you have to do is RSVP and you get free beer and some awesome swag from The Teenagers. (No actual teenagers allowed. Sorry. 21+)

If Tuesday wasn't enough, five incredible shows will be playing on Wednesday night: Midnight Juggernauts at Mezzanine (which is totally free!), Death Cab for Cutie at Fillmore, Caribou with Fuck Buttons at Independent, Man Man with Yeasayer at Great American Music Hall and finally the sold-out The Raconteurs' show at Bimbo's. How do you choose between those? We've never recommended five shows on one night. We are choosing Death Cab for Cutie because we are really interested in hearing their new stuff and because we've never heard them live before. Where will you be?

davidbazancd.jpgSaturday night, David Bazan is back supporting Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon at the Palace of Fine Arts. Be prepared for a night of incredible music. David Bazan was recently featured on The Take-Away Shows for playing in the Inner Mission district of San Francisco - maybe you passed them? Bazan said, "I really had no clue how everything would turn out: the wind was unpredictable, we were a little bit behind schedule, and I had too much coffee that morning. But like many of these improvised shows, you cannot plan too far in advance, or else you may miss the most important thing (whichever that thing may be)." You might have seen Kozelek in the movies, Shopgirl, Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky but he's more famous for the fact he continues to reinvent himself every few years. He just released Sun Kil Moon's third album April last month.

Hooray! The weeks surrounding Coachella are some of my favorite weeks every year, even though I don't go. Why bother, when all the bands come through town anyway (and I can see them at fun little venues instead of a huge oasis of body odor)?

My calendar the next two weeks is a sea of difficult choices.
