Felon Charges Against Tiger Mauling Victim Amritpal "Paul" Dhaliwal?

e32006-wii-controller-full.jpg

Paul Dhaliwal--Christmastime tiger attack victim, and currently in the process of trying to sue the city of San Francisco over said attack--might be looking at some time in the clink. After Dhaliwal went on a shoplifting spree last month, which included the brazen act of stuffing of two Wii controllers down his pants, San Leandro cops are recommend seven felony charges be handed down to him. According to the San Leandro police spokesman Lt. Tom Overton (via the San Jose Mercury News):

Dhaliwal was arrested shortly after 6:30 p.m. on March 27 after a security guard at the Target store at the Bayfair Center at 15555 East 14th St. in San Leandro observed him stuffing items inside his pants...Dhaliwal walked past all the store registers, never attempted to pay for the concealed items and walked outside of the store, where Target security stopped him and put him under citizen's arrest.

Clearly this is a cry for help stemming from the "emotional attacks" caused by Sam Singer.

Anyway, Overton goes on to say that the police believe Dhaliwal went on a three-day shoplifting spree at other Target stores. Police recommend grand theft charges since the "estimated total loss is more than $1,000."

Considering how well this will reflect on his impending lawsuit, you have to wonder if Tatiana wasn't just Mother Nature taking her course.

Sometimes you have to thin the herd.

That's a pretty pathetic shoplifting "spree". Those gangs that employ dozens of people lift hundreds of thousands of dollars of merch in a week. If anyone needs 157 foot spas, please let me know.

Curse you Sam Singer!!!

Uh, they want to file felony charges because they "believe" he went on a spree where over $1000 was "estimated" stolen? Anybody else think it's strange that even though they're so sure as to recommend these charges be filed, the only details we get in the story are only of the one incident? Sorry to call a spade a spade, but these charges are jacked up.

Believe you only need to show 400 bones worth of stuff taken for grand theft.

Believe this is a "wobbler" crime that could be charged either as a misdemeanor or a felony.

Believe criminal history of this suspect would tend to have the crim justice system favor calling this minor crime wave a felony.

I think Dhaliwalli and his scumbag brother need to leave the Bay area and head back into the jungle with the other wild animals. The next time they get picked up by the pol-eese they might accidentally trip and fall or happen to pull a weapon on law enforcement. You know, stuff like that happens all the time. Just sayin'...

I love the term "wobbler crime". Why have I not heard that on Law and Order SVU?

Benson: But we don't have enough to hold the creep

Stabler: And he touched those kids, I know it because I have kids of my own.

Munch: Don't worry, we can hold him on a wobbler.

ADA Novak: I'll wake up a judge

Cragen: I used to have a drinking problem, y'know

Wobbler or no, two Wii controllers is $60. Also, is it still grand theft when there are multiple instances that don't rise? I don't know, I'm just leery when a marginalized character is given the shaft, and this is looking pretty shafty so far. It's pretty much the same instict that is triggered when I see people with brown skin being pulled over by the police on a Thursday night for an apparent moving violation that never makes it onto a ticket.

What a loser!
