We did not know Annie Leibovitz had a local connection! Drew Altizer, the society photographer with all the connections, passes along a picture he took of Ms. Liebovitz with her sisters after a talk that Annie gave at her alma mater, the SF Art Institute, who just named her 2008's McBean Distinguished Lecturer.
You can still catch the McBean Distinguished Lecturer's photo exhibition at the Legion of Honor through next month.

Really? You didn't know? SFAI trots her out for all kinds of things. She's probably their most famous living alumna. It seems like every time she has a book come out, she's at SFAI for a launch party.

do yourself a favor and go see her show. plan a lot of hours to see everything. it is such a personal and beautiful showing of this really magnificient photographer. plenty of photos of her handsome sibs and wonderful mom and dad. i was really touched. some of the photos still haunt me weeks later. and, i can even remember which ones, out of hundreds of photos.
Her photos of her mom are great, but I think her mom is really interesting. I still think the celeb photos are the best. She really knows how to take a tremendous shallow photograph. Too bad this one's not in the show:
