SFist Tonight

*FILM: Seriously, you must check out "The Effect of Dada and Surrealism on Hollywood Films of the 1930s." Sounds pretentious and grating, yes. But it's not. Not at all. The clips of films they're screening are astoundingly fun. First, you get to see two numbers from Busby Berkeley's surrealistic masterpiece Dames (1934). (Check out the musical numbers above, which feature neon violins, dancing severed heads, dizzying chorus lines, and sheer kaleidoscopic insanity.) Then some Lady in the Dark, the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup (with a reportedly Dadaist final battle scene), and Salvador Dali's famous and infamously creepy Un Chien Andalou (An Andalusian Dog) are thrown in for good measure.

8 p.m. // Oddball Films (275 Capp) // $10 (RSVP at 415-558-8117)

CLUB: New York City legend DJ Junior Sanchez headlines a night bathed in indie, pop, disco, and noir-ish beats. Blow-up's Three-Year Anniversary celebrates three years of glamorous, drug-addled, dance-y fun on the edge of Hayes Valley. Arguably one of the city's best musicians, resident DJ Richie Panic, hosts the festivities along with guest DJ Designer Drugs.

10 p.m. // Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell) // $10 for 21+; $15 for 18-21

MUSIC: Multicultural rock beats abound care of Dengue Fever, Bat Makumba, French Disco, and DJ Felina.

9 p.m. // The Independent (628 Divisadero) // $15

The listed events were chosen by the editors of SFist and brought to you by the Click Here2009 Toyota Corolla.
