Billie McGee Found Safe With Friends

emoticon%20smiles.jpg

She's been found safe! With friends! And she's a bit of a spitfire! According to Marisa Lagos' sleuthing over at the Gate, McGee (who we reported as missing yesterday) took off from her home on Monday because her mother found "inappropriate text messages" sent to her daughter. Then, the two had it out, and Billie ran away. Anyway, she was found safe with friends, not dead in a ditch somewhere.

Her family had incorrectly told police that her daughter went missing after "leaving to catch a Muni bus."

So, what did those text messages reveal? We simply must know! Some have speculated it was an older man. Intriguing. And creepy. But at least she's safe.

Being a brat is better than being dead in a ditch, that's for sure. I'm glad she's ok.

I think the word we're all thinking is "Hoopla"

KCBS reported she'd been in contact with several older men. The men were all surprised to find out she was 12 when the police contacted them. Sounds like she is wanting to grow up and mama thinks she is still a little girl. I wonder what will happen next time she slips the leash?

whatever. fuck all y'all. you don't know her. she'll do what she wants, when she wants.

So... her mother lied to the police, and failed to mention the text messages or the fight they had? PLEASE tell me she'll be charged with filing a false police report, or at least pay for some of the public resources wasted in the search...

Tendernob: Personal accountability? In MY city? pfft

Tenderno0b - What city resources were used? This is probably a new concept to you but parents often elide details when concerning the whereabouts of missing children.

Oh, SNAP, periqueblend! You sure know how to throw down!

She told me she was 38!

I'm looking forward to watching "To catch a manys" next week.

run if they offer you sweet tea.

Used to be when some child took off, they were assumed to have run away like Pippi Longstocking with Tommy and Annika. Now, we're surprised and amazed when they don't turn up dead in a ditch?

First of all, they found her because someone recognized her. And that person recognized her because "city resources were used." Regardless of the reasons behind her leaving or the actions of her mother, it's ultimately a positive thing, and a better use of our police/resources than what they're usually wasted on (protecting torches).

PERIQUEBLEND, are you really trying to defend the false report of this mother by saying "parents" often "elide" reports of missing children????? jesus christ. do me a favor...look up "elide" and "lie" in a legal dictionary...then please, please proceed to pull your head out of your ass when you realize how ignorant that defense is.

Epistemophilia, you are right, though the same could have been said of that Runaway Bride chick from 2 years ago – she caused a similar brouhaha, was ultimately found, and had to repay her city (Atlanta) for the police/search costs.

And periqueblend, (1) reading newspapers is probably a new concept to you, but the strenuous efforts of the police to find Billie were detailed in yesterday’s SFGate; (2) the law is probably a new concept to you, but lying to police is illegal, and protective parenting is not a defense.

Jeez people, the ad hominem attacks were wonderful, but I guess my problem (my head up my ass problem) was that I couldn't properly distinguish regular police work from this extra effort they put in... To "find" her at her friend's house.
