Wonderdog - good call - they also park on (the usually empty) the block my office is on downtown to have a break/smoke/read/chat..... perhaps they could be better deployed, or have a home base to return to on breaks? I just figure they're blowing off their job we're paying them for when I see them here.

No offense to the meter attendants, but I have little sympathy for them. At least in the Inner Richmond, I've seen at the minimum at 10 different meter folks sleeping in their little meter cars, talking on the phone, driving while texting, and generally just not doing their job.

they could dramatically cut down on assaults by not being a dick and letting people slide if there's an iffy situation (like somebody running to move their car as they're pulling up in their twinky little cushman). but they're more likely to be utterly heartless, in my experience.

I didn't know that they were increasing neighborhood parking permits, too. I'm pretty bummed about that.

Hmm, all the ones in my neighborhood seem fairly normal. They're always friendly to me at any rate. But then again, I'm not violating the law when I encounter them.

I'm in agreement with RobInSF. They can be real cheaters. I've gotten plenty of tickets here in SF, most of which I deserved (not moving my vehicle during street cleaning because I had the flu, was too hung over, just didn't care, etc). But I've gotten quite a few tickets in a 2 hour time zone when I had only been parked there for 30 minutes. I've fought every one of those tickets and never have won. The only successful erroneously issued parking ticket I got overturned had to do with my parked Ford Ranger. I got a ticket that state commercial vehicles couldn't be parked on my block for more than 1 hour. Apparently the person who issued the ticket thought truck automatically means commercial vehicle, despite my truck having a residential parking permit on the bumper.

bluecanary - I'm pretty sure most of the cockeyed anger management cases who work for the DPW as meter maids couldn't get licenses for those little go carts they drive, let alone a license to carry a gun. Seriously. Have you seen some of these people?

I am OK with this if it means fewer people hanging into my driveway. I don't mind if people ignore the red paint on the side of it, but once they are about a foot past the downslope of driveway it really gets annoying.

103 mill out of a 6 billion dollar budget is not a whole lot. still they have to balance the budget on someone's back and smokers have been taking it up the ass for a long time.

wouldn't it be great if people actually showed up at the board of supervisor meetings and punched them in the face when they passed stupid laws that cause us to need this much money in fines? i'd applaud them all day for doing so.

Truth be told, I only beat them when they cheat. And boy do they cheat. A 2 hour zone mysteriously becomes 20 minutes, curbs also seem to shrink and grow yellower and redder with these bottom feeders. Leather Fong sez 'ya gotta make quota kids!'
