*FILM: Academy Award winner Emil Jannings (The Blue Angel, The Last Command) stars as Mephisto in F.W. Murnau's (Nosferatu) Faust (1926). this film was considered a special effects breakthrough in its time. Check out Murnau's last silent German film before he moved to glorious Hollywood.

MUSIC: Chanteuse Tift Merritt and songstress/fiddler Sara Watkins perform at the GAMH tonight. Both the the alt weeklies seem to like these two--can music build a bridge?--so...we recommend them as well. Head voer to the Tenderloin ("Nob Hill" to the border obsessed) to hear them tonight. ART OPENING: Untitled (Just For You)--an exhibit featuring Joe Cornett, Robert Jackson Harrington, Bridget Lanigan, Seth Lower, David Wolf, Jen Selden, Ruth Hodgins, Tom Borden
and Zak Starer--is a "multimedia look at the notion of artistic communication," and how much information is actually translated to the viewer. A semiotician's dream night, really. Check out Laughing Squid for more info.
