THEATER: The Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze xtreme-sports/surfer/heist film, Point Break, gets the stage treatment via the LA-based theatrical spectacular, Point Break Live! Yes, you read right, it has been adapted for the floorboards. What's more--in between lavishing praise on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger the Highway 80 overpass and punking his subject--Mayor Gavin Newsom has christened today, April 11, 2008, Point Break LIVE! Day.
Anyway, the mood is "10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife," Keanu-style, over at Xenodrome tonight. LA Times and LA Weekly gave it a rave reviews; so will you.
8 p.m. // Xenodrome (1320 Potrero) // $25
DRAG: At one of San Francisco's most beloved little venues that could, Kimo's, Juanita MORE! makes a triumphant return to the stage there, along with a gaggle of her tranny pals: Glamamore, Candi Gurl, Hoku Mama Swamp, and Alotta Boutte. It's the Kimo's vibe you know and love this evening, so head on over before it becomes an organic fruit stand, Peet's Coffee, or whatever.
midnight // Kimo's (1351 Polk) // free
FILM: Brian De Palma's Scarface (1983) screens at the Clay tonight. Sure you know it by now--Al Pacino, "Say hello to my little...," etcetera, etcetera, and so forth--but you know who's secretly the best part of this bloody film about coke dealing in Miami? Michelle Pfeiffer, that's who. The scene where she's hitting bumps at her vanity was star-making/breathtaking.
11:55 p.m. // Clay (2261 Fillmore) // $6-$9
