Muni's Guide to this Weekend: Cherry Blossom Festival

cherryblossommuni.jpg
Spring? Is in the air. Which? Means that the two-weekend-long Cherry Blossom Festival starts this weekend over. Which also? Means that MUNI will double your frustration, double your street closing fun. Behold:

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) advises San Francisco residents and visitors of the following event-related traffic and transit impacts this weekend, Saturday, April 12—Sunday, April 13, 2008. Event participants and fun seekers ["Is 'fun seeker' an official term?" -- SFist ] should check with www.sfmta.com or call 311 to find out which of the 80 Muni lines will get them where they want to go.

Cherry Blossom Festival

Over the next two weekends, April 12-13 and April 19-20, the Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

The following closures will be required 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday:

* Post Street from Laguna Street to Fillmore Street
* Webster Street from Sutter Street to Geary Boulevard

The following Muni lines may be affected:

* 2-Clement
* 3-Jackson
* 22-Fillmore

The Giants, it should be noted, have six home games in a row starting tonight, Friday. So far there are no adjustments in MUNI's typical baseball transit schedule, but if don't have to drive to SOMA this weekend, well...don't.

Isn't this something to do with the Japanese? Don't the Japanese still do whaling? LET'S PROTEST!!!!!

fizzandpop, you are getting that mixed up. Japanese (in Japan) and Japanese Americans are technically part of the same ethnicity, but culturally different.

I want to protest, so naturally I will be ignoring the facts and basing my protest entirely on stuff I read on blogs.

that's all we ask of you!

Don't forget to wear a crazy hat of some sort.

Make a painstakingly meticulous sign, then carry it upside down. This is how you know you're a true protester. Protest conventional protesting!

Or do it the Japanese way, with sound trucks:

I remember those crazy trucks down by the Russian embassy in Tokyo. I didn't know they were right wing 'cos, being a gaigin I don't speak or read Japanese.
