Yancys is my local, and yes I do love it, but it does have a certain aroma. Its a older spot though...not much you can do but pull out that carpet and go with tile or wood, and ditch that circa 1953 couch. Its still my favorite place to be at around 4:30pm during the week.

the inner sunset kicks an amazing amount of ass. Most of the bars have wifi, there's an incredible array of inexpensive, great ethinc markets (a kosher deli, a russian bakery/grocer and Sunset super all within walking distance) and a nice neighborhood vibe.

every neighborhood has its charm, I'm just glad so many hipper than thous avoid this part of town, it makes life more fun for those of us who live here!

And let's not forget the wonderful, excellent Arizmendi Bakery on 9th, what would our neighborhood be without it? Now if we could just get a bookstore (Black Oak is gone as of this week).

Yes Yancy's has free wifi. Best spot is by the window on a warm day when the window is open and you can say hi to the folks getting off N Judah.

But the carpet still smells.

The other beanery on 9th by Irving next to the Howard's Duck bar also has free wifi.

I hate the fact that you have pay for WiFi at Tart to Tart. What were they thinking? The game is over and everybody around them is offering free wifi...

I used to go to Fireside before it was something else... I think it was called WishingWell before it was fireside. And what was it before it was Wishingwell?

Inner sunset has a little college town vibe, and it pretty much rawks. It's changed a bit since Canvas closed, but it still definitely has it's own culture. Besides, the inner sunsent is a much larger area than lower-haight, or some other districts, so there should be no question about whether it has a right to exist.

An aside...Yancey's and a couple of the other bars around have free wifi too - ones that you don't have to register to use, like at Fireside.

I love the Inner Sunset, but I miss it too since I moved-out to the Outer Richmond district.

I always remember having my traditional Sunday breakfast at the Irving Street Cafe on Irving between 9th and 8th avenues.

Now, the only time I go to the Inner Sunset is for the cheap priced haircut on 23rd and Irving and visit the 7-11 for a slurpee at 46th and Judah.

I saw a guy with a "South Van Ness" hoodie walking home the other day. That man doesn't even rep a district anymore, he's down to a single street.

To his credit, I saw him on South Van Ness.

That is tutti fruitti.

Inner sunset definitely has a unique vibe.

The 46/irving (really, 46/judah) has more or less of a beach bum feel to it.

19-26/irving is pretty much your grocery land (and 22nd & irving market rocks!)

7-10/irving has a lot of cool stuff. My fav is the fireside & the beanery on 7th & Irving (with free wi-fi from the fireside). Yancy's smells very bad because they have beer/wine soaked carpets inside... and Crepevine has the best/largest salad in the city...

The best t-shirt for the neighborhood is the N-Judah t-shirt. I wear it when I travel out of country and have been surprised at how many people actually recognize it in London, Thailand, Mexico city and Vancouver

I will not rest until every boulevard, intersection and cul-de-sac has it's own fully trademarked clothing line.

But seriously, the Inner Sunset already has a t-shirt.

If you wear this t-shirt outside of S.F., people will think your some wacked out Marin Hippie New Ager.

They'll think that about you anyway once you say you're from San Francisco.

As for it being a lame t-shirt, it's hard for me to judge. I only wear t-shirts with superhero logos on them. Or, y'know, plain ones.

But, staying on the Inner Sunset topic: if the Fireside ever comes up with its own t-shirt? I'll wear that.

If Parkside insists on not being the Sunset, than Inner Sunset can have t-shirts.

I have one of those "The City" shirts that says "The Richmond." People ask where I got it and I hate having to say "uh... 19th & Irving." But man, unless you want a track suit, there's no fashion in the Richmond!

Im 99% sure this is Tutti Frutti, in-between Yancys, Progress Hardware and La Fonda on Irving, between 9th and 8th.

They also have a great shirt for newborns in the style of the AC/DC logo, but it reads AB/CD instead. Genius.

And re: neightborhood pride, forget 46th and Irving. You dont need to go any further than 19th to see the difference in the hoods. IS Represent!

of course it merits its own pride. that is one of the great things about SF...all the unique neighborhoods. and you cannot tell me that 9th and irving is anything at all like 46th and irving.

so GO INNER SUNSET.

also i wonder where Jim saw that shirt, i need to go buy it.
