I just learned this whole torch relay thing first took place at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Joseph Goebbels came up with the idea. Hmm. Maybe it's time to retire the run.
Simonian: Yes, 1936 was the first. But 2004 was the second. This is no kind of tradition.
Seamus - The Olympic torch passed through SF in 1996 and 2002. Went right by my building in '96. Here's some photos:

The funny thing is, there was so little publicity that I literally didn't know it was in SF until I walked out my door and I was all, "WTF? What's going on?"
