Images From Wednesday's Inner Mission Blaze

Another fire hit the Mission District, but this time no one was displaced or injured. It seems that Giant's Jewelers on 24th Street (between South Van Ness and Capp, next to the Napper Tandy) caught fire. Youch! Photog Chris Brennan captured the awful brilliance of firefighters arriving at the scene, the wielding of axes and ladders (just like they do in cartoons!), and virile men fighting the blaze. Fortunately, no one was hurt, save for some sparkling gems, but check out Brennan's superb shots of the fiery action.

Maybe they were fencing some hot jewellery. Look, someone had to make that joke, it's the comedy law.

the mission sure is on fire a lot these days. Poor 'hood.

ON on S. Van Ness between 22nd and 23rd also yesterday. Mission is en fuego lately.

The "welding" of axes? I think firefighters usually wield 'em, as in "flourish, wave, swing; use, employ, handle." Just sayin'.

great job photog !!!
feel for the hombres that could never fix my watch.
not feeling safe living over a laundry & torta shop but thats life in the mision.
