It sounds much more mature and worldly during the Latino/Salsa shows on Saturday, when they give the station ID: Kah - Peh - Oh - Oh (snickers en Espanol).
I heard this on the radio in a cab once. They were playing some African American-empowerment show or something. At one point the DJ had some sort of idiotic "group think" session where he put five different callers on the air at once, but they couldn't hear each other so they just were complaining about shit, talking over each other, and you couldn't a single one of them.
That was fucking ridiculous, but immediately afterwards, he told us we were listening to K-P-O-O and I lost it.
I love it. My first night living in the Western Addition I saw this on a walk around the hood and snapped a pic. I had to send it to everyone immediately.
best damn station in SF. the djs are live, you can call and ask for songs and they'll play 'em. they have public access call in shows, for better or worse. they have town hall meetings and planning commission meetings broadcast live. good music programs: hip hop, reggae, salsa, soul, irish, native american, jazz, oldies, gospel, and blues, all with NO COMMERCIALS!
i miss KPOO when i am away and i'm glad to tune back in when return.
btw long ago there used to be the world's lispiest dj on kpoo. to hear him call out "KPOO than franthithco 89.9!" was beautiful!

All I know is this: On Saturday nights from 10pm-Midnight it's 70s soul and from Midnight to 2am it's 60s soul. KPOO rules.
you said "poo." hee.

KPOO has been around a long time, and was one of the stations spawned by the legendary Lorenzo Milam, along with its counterpart KBOO in Portland.
Back then getting the letters "POO" in your FCC-issued callsign really meant something!
BeejW has it. Those and the Friday night mix are the best radio shows in the bay area. Plumpy probably just lives in Denver or something.
The sideways 8 has my imagination working overtime. Lady bits (and I'm not thinking boobs).
