Arrest In Irving Pizza Murders

San Francisco police arrested Matthew Owyang, 19, of Daly City in connection with the shooting deaths of Jason De La Cruz, 31, and Derek Butch, 23, which happened this past weekend. If you recall, De la Cruz and Butch were murdered in the Sunset last Saturday after De la Cruz took out his Verizon Wireless sales team to celebrate a successful sales month.
According to SFPD Sgt. Neville Gittens, the arrest was made with the help of witnesses.
Owyang's mother, Valerie, claims that her son has nothing to do with the killings.
The rapscallion's bail has been set at $20 million. (Whoa. That...seems pretty steep, yes?) Gittens goes on to tell the Gate that "[t]he case is still open. We are still looking for witnesses ... [w]e are still trying to develop more information, but we believe this person was responsible for the shooting."

They even set bail for a double homicide? Bye, bye douchebag, your 19 years on this planet have been a real benefit to humanity.
19 and nothing to look forward to but a long life of being a prison bitch. Hope the thought of free pizza was worth it.
Steep??? There should be no bail for homicide.
Now if could just beat Arsenal today, all would be right with the world.
I sure hope they have the right punk. If all they’ve got is witness testimony, that’s not very reliable. ‘Specially since his description was, well, so non-descript.
Oh, and thanks for posting that photo right at lunchtime. Now my stomach is rumbling.
@daithi
Dude, it's 1-1 at halftime. Vital way goal.
If not for the fact that fair bail is a part of the Constitution, your guilty-until-proven-innocent philosophy might survive the laugh test. Keep going with those prison rape fantasies, though, they're a real hoot.
yeah, i don't get the whole prison-rape-equals-hell thing. (personal fantasies aside.) it seems that having your liberties stripped from you, confined to a small space, and seeing your children grow up and move on without you is far worse than having a penis shoved up your ass. it's not like it makes you gay or anything.
If you have a strong stomach, check out the comments at SFGate on this story. The prison rape fascination in full swing. I don't get it either. I think it reveals more about the mind of the commenter than he or she may want revealed.
fizzandpop, boy were we lucky. Watched the 2nd half. It was not pretty, but have the away goal. Fortress Anfield next week.
Listen: If you offer me free pizza and then back out... I will bust the caps into your ass.
Word.
the case is still open....
wake me when someone is actually convicted....
Maybe it's because I'm not a guy, but it seems like for a guy, that would be horror. It certainly would be a horror for a chick. Esp since the kid is only 19. What kids will he see "grow up and move on" without him?
Plus, there's more to being a prison bitch than just rape. Haven't you seen Oz?
I guess since prisoners get a free gym, cable TV, a library, and get fed fairly well (comparatively for prisoners), it makes sense that non-criminals would want to imagine something terrible about prison. This infatuation does verge on sickness, though, it's odd.
Well, I haven't read the sfgate comments section, but I certainly don't have an infatuation with it. But having worked in the criminal system, and read heavily on the topic, I merely pointed out it's the likely fate of a thin, young man.
And he didn't even get a free slice of pizza.

Despite the popular perception of prison being one step down from a Courtyard by Marriott, it's a violent, scary, intensely unpleasant place to be. Ask anyone who's been there. Given the constant threat of violence, barely edible food, and constant racket, the free cable (not available generally, BTW) isn't much of a consolation.
The same people who are clamoring for this kid to get violently raped in prison would be singing a different tune if one of their loved ones was convicted of, say, burglary and sentenced to prison.
@Angrybat, very well put, could not agree with you more.
There's prison as in San Quentin, but there are also county jails and things of that nature. Most burglars end up in county. Not a fun place, but not ass-rape gang-ruled state prison either.
Reason is many in county are only in for a relatively short time, and are relatively lower level criminals...like burglars. There's less urge to "prove yourself" during a short stay, and you're not surrounded by 25-life gang-hardened lunatics.
State prison is full of violent offenders with long sentences...they have nothing to lose, so crazy gang life and infighting is really the only 'activity' they have.
Double murder = San Quentin though...if this kid did it he'll be thrown into the snake pit for sure.
As per the above, I know somebody who went to "Club Fed" (versus the Q or Pelican Bay) and it didn't sound so terrible. (A black man, even, so let's not get into the "minorities don't go to the nice prisons" argument.) Of course, he didn't commit double murder.
This is besides the point people once again... Life in prison and getting raped is NOTHING compared to the crime Matthew Owyang committed.
Remember he killed 2 people and one of them was a young father of two small children.
As the saying goes: "If you make your bed, lay in it". And the cold blooded killer of these two men deserve all the bad that is headed his way.
