Over at the Papyon Terrace condominium complex in south Fremont, James Henderson--a 39-year-old man--raped, pistol whipped, and beat a woman early this morning, prompting a standoff with the police. (He lives in the garage of his family's condo, it seems. Charming.) Police still have him barricaded within Papyon Terrace's walls, according to the Oakland Tribune, and SWAT teams have surrounded the complex. Unfortunately, Herderson has yet to be apprehended or fatally shot.

The Tribune goes on to say that they don't believe Henderson has taken any hostages, but the SWAT team "has locked down the complex and surrounded the building, located near Auto Mall Parkway." The standoff has closed the Mall Parkway for now.

Update: It ended in a spectacular tear-gas finale. He finally crawled out from his family's condo, and was arrested at "11:20 a.m. on suspicion of several felony charges, including sexual assault and assault with deadly weapon.," reports the Gate.
