SOMA Scene To Early Morning Beating Death

mission%20and%20mary.jpg

The San Francisco Police Department are on the hunt for someone who robbed and then beat to death a 72-year-old man in SOMA at Mission and Mary Streets. The murder occurred at around 1:40 a.m. today, and was witness by a security guard across the street.

A security guard from across the street witnessed what happened and tried to discourage the attacker. According to the Gate, the guard "saw the man going through the man's pockets and said ... 'Stop, I'm calling the police,' and the man ran off." This horrifying incident comes just one day after two people were stabbed nearby at Fifth and Stevenson Streets.

SOMA is so up-and-coming on the crime scene.

Is it just me, or is our fair City all f'ed up? I don't think it is just because I am older and perhaps stodgier than I was 10 years ago when I moved to the Bay Area... but I haven't ever felt that nagging edge of uneasiness on the streets until recently. Thoughts?

Advocatory,

I have been living in SF since 1979. The crime level, and/or our perception of it, seems to rise and fall in cycles. Right now I think tend to agree with you that things are getting worse again.

I just still can't get over the fact that no one ever gets caught in this city. Thats the scary part. And I think the criminals are catching on to that.

Also don't security guard's have mace???

There are definitely some parts of the City that I avoid walking around after Midnight - SoMa, west of 5th Street, is one of those areas fo' sho'

SOMA will put you in a COMA

where exactly did he live and wtf was he doing outside at 1am to have a smoke?

reliving his teenage years i take it.

when you live in the ghetto, you have to take a little more precaution i'd think.
