Most likely, he'd probably win,

You think so? I'm doubtful.

I'm supporting Gav-4-Guv out of pure, crass regional greed. A San Franciscan will be more likely to bring home the literal and ideological pork. (More stem cell funding, keep Hetch-Hetchy ours, sign gay rights legislation, etc., etc.)

With the slate of candidates you mentioned, it looks like Newsom is the furthest to the left. So that's nice.

But I don't think he stands a chance against Jerry Brown in the primary. By 2010 the new/change/hope/young-guy meme will have taken some serious hits. Brown has massive union backing and even more hard-core party loyalty.

Other than the impending nuptials, the only edge Newsom has over Brown is support from the LGBT constituency. As substantial as that voting bloc is, it can't deliver a nomination. Not with a rich guy and a big city latino also running, both with statewide name recognition.

Am I wrong?

I'd sooner stick needles in my eyes than vote for that drunk-and-passed-out-in-a-doorway-best-friend's-wife-f*cker for governor. He is evil, he must be destroyed.

Given all of the great things he's done for SF, I'm sure he deserves a shot at ruining the entire state.

It would be great if he ran and won. Then the President of the Board of Supes, which will probably be Ross Mirkarimi at the time, will become mayor and we will actually have someone who will do some good for San Francisco. It will certainly be better than Newsom's petty posturing and press releases and claims to being an environmentalist while letting Muni rot.

Anybody who strongly dislikes Newsom should support his run for govenator as much as possible!

I know Jed Bartlet, and you, sir, are no Jed Bartlet. Or Leo McGarry. Or even Alan Alda on his worst post-M*A*S*H day. He's not even Aaron Sorkin in a drug-fueled stupor at the Burbank airport. But he might be a disappointing episode of Sports Night.

Maybe he should run for Mayor of Davos. On how many days in the past year as the alleged Mayor even been within the city limits? While he's playing international man of mystery, the city crumbles.

... hopefully he runs and wins because I don't think he'd hesitate to sign legislation allowing for lesbian and gay couples to be treated with the same dignities and legal rights by the state of California as hetero couples..... finally catching us up to Massachusetts and other states.
