Actually, many shootings do occur in the daylight hours, or before midnight. Of SF's 22 murders so far this year, 15 happened after 4 a.m. and before 12 a.m. 8 were shot to death between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and 7 were shot to death between 3 p.m and 12 a.m. People kill each other whenever they feel like it.

I know absolutely nothing about any individual who has been shot in the Bay Area, ever -- except that nearly all of the shootings seem to occur in seedy neighborhoods between midnight and 4am. So it's hard not to feel that the shootees were maybe just a little bit culpable.
