Anti-War Protests Start Early, Several Chain Themselves to Federal Building

Handcuffs-Blue.jpg

Prefacing tonight's March and Rally to End the War Now, which happens at 5 p.m. at Civic Center, a few staunch anti-war protesters won't be able to able to attend tonight's festivities. The fuzz arrested seven people outside the Federal Reserve Bank in the Financial District this morning at around 7:45 a.m. The Fed building received some early morning anti-war wrath since "the bank provides the foundation for corporations to take advantage of the war."

Protests are planned throughout the day at the Federal Building at Seventh and Mission streets (don't hurt that building, people; it's gorgeous!), the Army recruiting office at 670 Davis St., Sen. Dianne Feinstein's office at 1 Post St., and the San Francisco Democratic Party office at 155 Sansome St., according to the Gate.

Oh, and CODEPINK also unfurled a banner on the Golden Gate Bridge this morning. We'll up update you throughout the day with more anti-murder, -rape, -torture, and -war in Iraq coverage.

Something is going on at UCSF Mission Bay too.

Loaded with police. People are chaining themselves to doors and the Regents are there having a meeting.

"...this morning at around 7:45 p.m."

Really?

Several hundred demonstrators blocking 3rd and market intersection, about 30 having a die in, and dozens of riot police arresting them. Now guantanamo style orange jump suits are joining them from market and a crazy groucho marx type general is leading the riot police toward the demonstrators. I got a venti coffee in case anyone cares.

Now there are more flag wavers, and that photo journalist and mayoral candidate has been arrested again, (he was doing everything possible to get arrested). Also a bunch of people in white are coming down Kearney, I cannot make out who they are, reminds me of folks escaping from the asylum..

Folks 3rd and market is where it is at right now.

Streets are cleared, band is playing the funeral march for the couple of dozen hardy souls who are been registered and put on a prison bus, motor bike cops are driving around in circles, and every tv interviewer is getting pushed back on the sidewalk. Me thinks that they will regroup and move on. Also there must be 20 muni buses lined up down 3rd street right now,
