SFIAAFF: Actually, Love

actlove.jpg

No, this isn’t the funny little holiday fairy tale with Hugh Grant as the British PM, who along with nearly everyone else in Love Actually, ultimately finds love amidst chaos. Instead, Actually, Love – a series of ten quirky shorts showing at the SFIAAFF -- is, for the most part, more of a melange of how it goes down in real life.

Have you ever been in that relationship that’s not working, just waiting for the sign that now’s the time to flee. . . .or have you realized that the person that you thought was so right was actually so wrong. . . . Well then, congratulations, you have something in common with a lot of other folks - and with several of the characters featured in these shorts.

After the jump: one-night stands gone wrong, love on public transportation, and endings happily ever after!

There’s also a short for anyone who’s ever brought someone home after a night out only to discover that, upon walking through the door, everything changes. The chemistry doesn’t necessarily translate into easy conversation, and there may even be some barriers that you didn’t anticipate, but . . . . nothing a couple glasses of wine can’t assuage. . . right??

And who said that public transportation and love don’t mix. . . . well, that might be a bit of a stretch with the San Francisco disaster called MUNI, where given the infrequency and insufficiency of service, most of us end up a little (actually a lot) closer than we want to be to our MUNI neighbors. But, ya know, every once in a while there’s that public transpo neighbor that you want to know a little better. "Meeting Amber" is just that. However, don’t put yourself through what the guy in the short does - save yourself some anguish and just say hello already.

For those folks who are indeed looking for another Love Actually, all hope is not lost. Actually, Love culminates in a bit of a musical fairy tale that sends you out of the theater with a renewed hopeful spirit that sometimes the right guy - or girl - actually gets the girl.

Actually, Love plays again this Sunday, March 23, in San Jose at Camera Cinemas 12 at 4:15 pm.
