Muni's Guide to the Weekend is EXTRA CUTE This Week

puckerup.png
You know, we normally hate bus-line disruptions, but we can ALMOST make an exception for this weekend's: "On Saturday, March 15, San Francisco Little League Baseball will open the 2008 season with a parade from the Presidio to Marina Middle School." A parade! A cute little baseball parade! TOO ADORABLE! This makes us want to have a baby so we can raise it for 8 years and then buy it a little pinstripe costume and one of those big leather mittens and have it march down the street waving to all the enchanted onlookers.

But there's more parades to be had this weekend! The Saint Patrick's parade is also happening on Saturday. Oh paraders, don't make us choose! Wait, does San Francisco let homos march in the Saint Patrick's parade? Or is it only for closet-cases like in Boston?

Also this weekend, there's some kind of 12k happening in Marin; but we don't really fag out for marathons like we do for parades.

Here's the details, direct from Muni's cruise director:

St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival

On Saturday, March 15, the St. Patrick's Day parade and festival will
be held on Market Street and in the Civic Center Plaza.

The parade units will begin to assemble at 10:00 a.m. along 2nd Street
between Market Street and Townsend Street. The parade will begin at
11:30 a.m. and head west along Market Street, turn west on McAllister
Street, south on Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, and then east on Grove
Street where it will disband.

Market Street between 1st Street and 10th Street will be closed to
traffic beginning at 11:00 a.m. Streets will reopen as the marchers
pass and the streets are cleaned. The parade will conclude at
approximately 3:00 p.m. The review stand will be on Carlton B.
Goodlett Place.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the F-Market Muni line will only operate
between Castro Street and Van Ness Avenue and between the Ferry
Building and Fisherman's Wharf. The following Muni lines will also be
affected by the parade as early as 10:00 a.m.:

5-Fulton

6-Parnassus

9-San Bruno

9X-Bayshore

10-Townsend

19-Polk

21-Hayes

26-Valencia

27-Bryant

30-Stockton

30-Stockton Shuttle

31-Balboa

38-Geary

71-Noriega

Muni customers wishing to see the parade or who otherwise want to go
downtown are advised to take Muni Metro whenever possible.

The festival in Civic Center Plaza will begin immediately following
the parade and continue until 5:00 p.m. Although no street closures
are planned, motorists should be advised that traffic in the area may
be congested.

Little League Parade

On Saturday, March 15, San Francisco Little League Baseball will open
the 2008 season with a parade from the Presidio to Marina Middle
School.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. the parade will leave the Presidio Main Post
and make its way through the Lombard Gate, down Lyon Street to Union
Street, east on Union to Laguna Street, north on Laguna to Chestnut
Street, left on Chestnut to Divisadero Street, north on Divisadero to
Francisco Street, east on Francisco/Alhambra Street to Cervantes
Boulevard, and back to Bay Street.

The following street closures will be in place starting at
approximately 10:00 a.m.

• Union Street from Lyon to Laguna

• Chestnut Street from Laguna to Divisadero

The following Muni lines will be affected:

• 22-Fillmore

• 30-Stockton

• 45-Union

• 28-19th Avenue

Emerald Across the Bay 12K

On Sunday, March 16, the Emerald Across the Bay 12K race will be held
from East Fort Baker in Marin County to Aquatic Park starting at 8:00
a.m.

Runners will leave East Fort Baker, run over the Golden Gate Bridge to
Battery East Road, left on Lincoln Boulevard., left on Long Avenue,
loop around Fort Point, follow along the Golden Gate Promenade, out
the Marina Gate to Marina Boulevard, through Fort Mason to Aquatic
Park.

The short stretch of Lincoln will be coned for the runners, allowing
for traffic in both directions. Marina Boulevard will be closed in the
westbound direction from Marina Gate to Buchanan street from 8:00 a.m.
to 11:00 a.m.

The 19-Polk Muni terminal on Beach Street will be temporarily
relocated to Larkin Street at Beach from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

the little league parade is actually pretty cute!!!

the marathon cutting off access to the marina is a pain .... why the cops who are getting paid big $$$ overtime can't coordiante cross traffic better is beyond me.
