"Masonic is for pedestrian"? Which one?
Masonic is the only decent north-south street between Park Presidio and Franklin.
OK.
Improved Masonic Ave. would be great. I think we can all agree on that.
But WTF is up with the hand colored signs? Did some well paid political consultant do a focus group and discover that 23% more elected officials listen if you walk around with signs that look like they came out of a well supervised kindergarten?
(These are everywhere, not just for transit projects, thoguh of course for projects like this the organizers all want the press to think it's For The Children. Think of the hand lettered neighborhood signs in last year's Newsom campaign.)
Masonic is a deathtrap and something does need to be done. Particularly the panhandle/GG Park connection at Masonic and Fell.
And I say this as someone whose kid was hit by a car at that intersection.
It's definitely a problem. When I used to drive frequently, I would become like a madman on Masonic, darting into the right lane and back into the left to get ahead of turning cars. The panhandle section was especially tempting as Southbound you have that extra right lane. Now that I walk and take transit, I am really aware of how dangerous that was.
The signs look like they were made by kids because some of them were. The rally was held at a school where cars have actually crashed into the building.

Masonic is a horror.
