Owl Tree to Make Comeback

owltree.jpgOkay, so it's only noon-ish and perhaps it's a bit early to think about drinking, but when it involves one of our favorite bars, we're gonna brave an alkie reputation to bring this bit of news: Our friends over at EaterSF are reporting that the Owl Tree may be making its way back onto the dive bar scene. After writing about construction starting up at the SF institution, readers wrote EaterSF with e-mails saying that the Owl Tree will be restored.

All clues point towards the proprietors of Harry's Bar being behind the Owl Tree redux and most importantly, the owls will be back! According to Eater's reader comments:

Wasn't the liquor license purchased by the folks from Harry's Bar on Fillmore? I've heard that they are trying to 'restore' the bar as best they can (many fixtures were sold off during a cash-strapped period shortly after Bobby's death), but the place needed new electrical, plumbing, etc. Anticipated re-opening was March, so we should expect sometime in June...

Although Bobby is sorely missed, we're glad this establishment will be back in all of its owl glory.

Hooray for nearby dive bars!!!

there was some odd drama when the owl tree made a brief resurgence after bobby died but I was never clear exactly what was going on.

I used to recommend the Owl Tree as part of "Disneyland Bars" tour that included a few other places in the 'hood. IT was a fun place to go back in the day.

Hate to spread rumors but I heard Bobby's drug addict son was squatting in the place after it shut down, then sold the owl fixtures for extra cash.

But I certainly used to love that place. So glad to hear there's a redux coming!

looks like they lost the old signage. bummer..

ill see you all @ pissed off pete's.
