I don't know the plot of "Once," because I've never seen it, and hopefully never will unless I'm strapped into a chair being Clockwork Orange'd. But damn does that music suck. Here I was hoping we had woken up from Coldplay's saccharine spell of mopey love songs. Were they even awake when they wrote these lyrics? Do they know what they're singing? It sounds like their songs were written by a robot and/or Disney executive.

All the songs sucked except the Harlem choir one. That was the only one I actually watched all the way through. The little girl soloist was amazing! Day-Lewis can wear earrings at my house anytime he wants. Rrrrrrrowr. I promise not to wear any dresses as fugly as Miller's last night, too.

The melody to Falling Slowly totally reminds me of that kids song that goes, "Frère Jacques, Frère Jacques Dormez-vous, dormez-vous?" I liked the movie and the song... but I do giggle about that melody

You guys are seriously crazy. Musical complexity aside, Falling Slowly is a beautiful song. No two ways about it. And to the naysayers, keep it in perspective. Which would you rather have you ears fall upon while scanning the airwaves, that song or some modern tripe from your average mainstream pop artist? I would say keep your "terrible" tag for music that deserves it.

Once was a cute date movie, but "Falling Slowly" is a terrible song, nothing along the lines of "Blame Canada!". For those who haven't watched Once, "Falling Slowly" consists of the same four notes repeated endlessly, while the song itself is performed at least four (or 5?) times throughout the movie. Glen & Marketa (the performers) are super likable, but I've seen much more talented street musicians than them.

BeejW, I'm with you. I didn't get the fawning praise for "Once" at all, and I was a fan of the Frames before I saw it. But same here, it bored the fuck out of me. I kept waiting for something to happen. It never did.

I thought DDL said something about his partner in his acceptance speech, although he also mentioned children, etc. Scott Rudin said partner and honey, leaving no doubt about the meaning.

"Falling Slowly" is a terrible song and Once bored me to tears. I actually got up off the couch and washed dishes instead of watching it. If I had been in a theater watching it? I don't what I would have done. I guess I would have gone to the snack bar and washed something. That being said- it pretty much was the best movie song of the year out of what there was to choose from.
