Since we'd hate to give this year's most alarmist story its own post, for fear the pandemonium will spread, we'll just stick up a nifty little shot of a python and tell you this: it's coming for you.

Yay! Tastes like chicken! Coming soon to a Ferry Plaza FM near you! Eat Local!

LOL

This reminds me of Palo Alto's great anaconda scare of the 90's if anyone else remembers that.

Anyway I'm not too worried.. this article seems to ignore A) the continental divide, and B) the massive desert between us and the eastern states.

the story was a spoof, wasn't? 2020 is, like: we'll all be dead by then.

I thought the article was HILARIOUS! Especially the almost kinda serious but still tongue in cheek comments from the zoologist were great:

C'mon, how is this not genius:
"It would be exceptional for one animal to be that unidirectional in its movement, but it's mathematically possible," Rodda said."

"A large alligator will eat a small python," Rodda said. "But we are not recommending you import alligators into California. That would not be a good idea."

I've got a Newsom joke, a Hilary joke and one overused Ed Jew joke. Pick one.

wait, wait, wait....

Lions, tigers, IBR... and snakes! Oh my!

What a week this has been!!

That was my favorite story in the Chron this year. Sounded more like an Onion story - maybe that's part of the SFGate makeover?

The line about scientists confirming that humans are animals is one of my favorite parts. That and the beavers.

Yes, it was rather like a story from The Onion or The Borowitz Report. I liked the line about alarming deer lovers and the deer.

My favorite bit: "The natural enemies of the python are lions, tigers and other large cats. There are few free-roaming African lions and tigers between Florida and San Francisco, the geological survey said."

Good one Steve, good one.

Maybe they will eat Paris Hilton's chihuahua.

On a happier note, maybe they will eat Paris Hilton.

Hey, when did the Chronicle start running stories from the Onion?

@Freelivin

Yeah, I remember that episode, but my memory is hazy and I might be blurring two scares. I recall something about a rumored black mamba in Mountain View in the Nineties.

that python looks just like the shoulder bar that lindsey lohan had with her yesterday

No Beaver will be safe from the pythons in 2020!!!

Anybody know what happened to all those killer bees that were supposed to fly up from the land of brown people and kill us all? It was back in the late 70s and I haven't heard anything about them for a while. As you can imagine I'm a ball of nerves by now, so I'd like some answers RSN.

I'm pretty sure that the killer bees were wiped out by interferon, the miracle drug.

The killer bees knew better and skipped the USA altogether and headed over open water to Canada where they have universal healthcare and cool Canadian accents. Now that they have been rehabilitated, they are no longer a "killer" threat to society, they just hang around and gripe about the cold weather and all the moose everywhere. "There's moose everywhere, eh? bzzzz bzzzz..."

i just can't wait until they get here. then we get to have a Whacking Day!!!
