Hot Stuff: Food Section Round Up
We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. Here are our favorite food section nibbles from today's offerings.
SF Chronicle: Sweet date action. We highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates for easy and fun party eats.
Celiac sufferers and non-meat eaters find love, too. Nothing says "I Love You" like 3-bean chili. NY Times editors may be grinding their teeth after realizing they ran a similar story on romances with food challenges.
The Oakland Tribune: Cocina Poblana brings Mexican to Jack London Square, and includes a vault with 280 kinds of tequila. Easy chocolate dipped strawberries, even if you think Valentine's Day "is the dumbest day of the year." Tip: we find the Trader Joe's big bars melt and work well for this application. Put those Fujis to work in a gorge-gorge apple tarte tatin.
San Jose Mercury News: Wake up and smell the chocolate by visiting Peninsula and South Bay chocolatiers. Sip some port with those sweets for a fulfilling evening. Nothing says love like porto. What's in your food bins this week? (Grapes, for starters).

we ate at the 'new' (moved from old oakland, i believe) cocina poblana the other day, and they're basically decent semi-fusion mexican food at tourist prices. Entrees run $15-20. Too bad, because Jack London could really use an ultra-cheap taqueria that's open late (Mexcali Rose is too sketchy, and La Boriquena, which is awesome, closes at like 5 or 6).
can't recommend them unless you are stranded in Jack London Square for some reason (and if you are, you should go get BBQ at Everett & Jones instead).
And then go to merchants.
