Marina Plays Host to International Intrigue After Man Makes Threats Outside Egyptian Consulate

Last night, according to an SFist tipster:
A few blocks in the Marina around Cervantes and Beach were shut down to traffic and residents for about an hour and a half this afternoon. Helicopters, police, and bomb squad were all present. Anyone know what was going on??? I asked the cop who was blocking the street and he said "Whatever it is, it's bad." Gee, thanks.
Well, it turns out that all of the hullabaloo was due to an unidentified man "making threats and causing a disturbance" just outside the Egyptian Consulate in the Marina. Yikes! According to KCBS "[a] police officer found an agitated man standing outside the Egyptian Consulate in the Marina District and shouting general threats with a suitcase nearby." Although no explosives were found in the screaming gentleman's suitcase, he was placed under arrest.
SFist tried calling the Egyptian Consulate to find out more, but we keep getting a busy signal, a sound we haven't heard since probably the '90s.

Thank you sfist for being the ONLY news outlet in town to get this info..... checked all the traffic sites yesterday afternoon, all totally unaware of this!
By the way... does anyone know why this consulate is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood? Kind of random!
Lots of consulates (German, Polish, Italian, etc.) are located in the residential areas of Pac Heights/the Marina.
thanks to the wonderful tools of google, we are able to see plenty of the consulates ARE within feet of residents. (well at least here in SF)
* Type: sf consulates
in google to view the map(s).
The scariest, I guess in the marina, was in the 80's the Russian consulate off union st. (ahem, was anyone in the city around that time?) I was probably in a tricycle, but was quite static.
Why was this not reported?
I was there yesterday, an officer told me the man arrested was irate and screaming outside of the Consulate, claiming to be Egyptian royalty and demanding to be sent home. The police arrested him and took him away. His briefcase was left behind just outside the gate. While the bomb squad was on its way, the police evacuated the surrounding homes and blocked off the streets.
This is the same location where the bat with rabies was found last month. I'd stay away from this intersection.
