UC Berkeley Solves a Mystery and the World Cheers
This genuine chirping hummingbird from Berkeley weighs less than a sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper. Quite feisty nevertheless. Larger photo here

Researchers from the University of California at Berkeley have solved a longstanding mystery about how Anna's hummingbirds are able to chirp so loudly. Read all about it. Or, better yet, watch the ABC7 video (filed under "news/bizarre") from Wayne Freedman that tells the whole story nicely (despite the fact they opened and closed with photos of banal, non-tail-chirping hummingbirds).
Congratulations go out to Bay Area locals Christopher James Clark and Teresa J. Feo. Go Bears!
