I thought race is not supposed to matter. If he made it a specific point to appoint as many blacks as he could, then he too can be accused of having an agenda and discriminate based on race, no?

Willie Brown has always reminded me of Clarence Royce, the fictional mayor of Baltimore on "The Wire". He's firmly a part of the political establishment, exploiting it to enrich himself but when defending against charges of corruption he portrays his political career as representative of the ascendant power of the African-American community in general and therefore any challenger to his wealthy position as someone opposed to black empowerment.
