Actually, I think it's a brilliant idea. Think about it - a peace center, isolated on an island, inaccessible to pretty much everyone. (Unless, that is, you swim the bay, hire a boat, or ride one of those new age whales or something.) I think the symbolism there pretty much sums the whole thing up, IMO.

So if this thing were built, mountains will magically appear in the sky and Saturn will move behind them, some UFOs will show up and set up bases, and a serene-looking goddess/Queen Amidala-type will arrive to spy on the whole thing? Great. It's stuff like this that gives this town its flavor and part of why I moved here, but I know the next time I talk to relatives or friends who don't live here, part of the conversation will be "no, I'm not voting for that," complete with a sigh and an eyeroll.
