Hot Stuff: Chocolate Happenings

chocomouth.jpg

Got your calendar ready? We heard you when you told us to give more notice about fun events like the International Chocolate Salon at Fort Mason. Knowing that, along with the fact that Single Awareness/Valentine's Day beckons soon, we have a stellar line up of tasty chocolate events to get you in the mood. You know, it's totally okay to buy sweets for yourself -- we do it all the time. Think of it as buying for someone you truly love. Nibble, taste, gulp... now wasn't that fun?

First up, an interesting sounding short film called In Search of the Heart of Chocolate, about a Bay Area filmmaker named Sarah Feinbloom, a chocolate shop (Chocolate Covered in Noe Valley), assorted chocoholics, and lots and lots of chocolate.

Head to Delancey Street on February 12th, at 6:30 & 7:30 PM (film runs 2x while a catered reception happens), 600 Embarcadero Street San Francisco, CA 94107. The event will be: "featuring chocolate from Charles Chocolates and Noe Valley Bakery, art by Liz Mamorsky, sound by Robert Berke Sound and animation by Kaitlin Chong, and editing by Anne Flatté, this melt in your mouth experience celebrates the Bay Area’s finest." Please reserve seats by emailing info@chocumentary.com. Tickets are $10, and DVD’s will be available for purchase Yum.

Fog City News at 455 Market Street between First and Fremont Streets. Michael Mischer of Oakland's Michael Mischer Chocolates will be at Fog City News today from 12 noon to 2 p.m. We met Mischer in 2006, and can give his chocolates a wholehearted thumbs up (think of chocolate with nuts, mango, raisins, and other fun add ins). Other celebrated chocolate stars will be appearing including: Richard Donnelly on February 1st (12-2 p.m.), Julie Tucker Legrand, co-founder of SexSmarts & Chocolate Smarts on February 6th (1-2 p.m.), Michael Recchiuti on February 8th (12-2 p.m.) and Lloyd Martin on February 11th (12-2 p.m.).

Charles Chocolates is giving free champagne and chocolate pairing advice on February 9th from 1-5 p.m., with a ten per cent discount on all purchases made that day. May we recommend one of their chocolate boxes, or chocolate covered nuts? Charles Chocolates also has ongoing tea and chocolate pairings with Teance, and multiple sampling of both is a must. January 31st, February 28th and March 20th from 7-8 p.m., $20 a person. Events take place at Charles Chocolates Chocolate Bar located at 6529 Hollis Street in Emeryville. Park onsite.

The San Francisco Chocolate Company
has a wine lover's chocolate collection ranging from 54% chocolates paired with port wine to 72% chocolates paired with Zinfandel. Other red varietals like Cab, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Merlot are in the collection as well. Visit their chocolate boutique at 286 12th Street, on the corner of 12th Street and Folsom. Hours are M-Sat, from 12-6 p.m.

Our food blog round up will return next week. Email Hot Stuff at: laddmary (at) yahoo (dot) com if you'd like us to pay attention to any faves or disses!
