The USD Exchange Rates Photo Wells Fargo Bank Doesn't Want You to See!

After taking this photo, a lady came up to me and said, "I saw you take a picture of our rate board. I need you to erase that picture right now."

"Sure. No problem. Right after I blog it, I will delete it from my phone."

Titillating, but the question remains: why?

It looks like the board's behind bullet-proof glass with a teller window below it. If that's the case, then my guess is it's not so much the board that you're not supposed to photograph as it is security conditions in the area.

I think vatdave is right. I think it might be the same case for supermarkets (of all places)as well.

If you blog photos of exchange rates then the terrorists have won!

Because cameras could be used by terrorists. I doubt it goes any deeper than that.

I think James should mail a copy of that photo to the branch.

You're forgetting about arbitrage, people, arbitrage!

1. The teller is ugly

2. The conversion rates are rounded down to benefit the bank

3. The person who walked up to you works at B of A where the rates are worse.

It's probably just because it's fucking embarrassing. Way to embarrass your country, Brock! You have no shame.

When I said "Brock", I mean "James Passey". It's a common typo.

banks are none too keen about folks taking pics for the obvious reasons.....but some of 'em get a bit wacky. I remember going into a bank in Massachusetts and was asked to take off my baseball hat, sunglasses and to stand up straight because "they wanted to make sure I wasn't going to rob the bank, and if Idid, to get a good picture on the security cameras."

Yeah, really. All I could think was "if I was a bank robber, would you even be having this conversation with me right now?" but said "As a law abiding citizen I shall take off said apparel, forthwith".

probably has something to do with competition in the foreign exchange business. they don't want you showing that to anyone else to see what retail rates they had any any point in time.

EXCHANGE RATES ARE PROPRIETARY INFORMATION. Who knew?!?

You selling Euros for 1.5346?

I won't pay an iota more than 1.5131

Gimme 3 right way with the exact change back.

Greg, that's easy. What if you were casing the joint? What if you were set on robbing the bank but this discouraged you? So-on and so-forth. Eh.

@zippy: I figured as much but it seemed like such an odd conversation to have with someone.

"Sure. No problem. Right after I blog it, I will delete it from my phone."

Least bad-ass attempt at being a bad-ass ever.

Because WFB has crappy exchange rates - and they tack a service fee onto those rates as well. Just wait til you get to wherever you're going and use a bank ATM at the airport.

It's because they're douches, plain and simple.
