New Global Monopoly Game Leaves Its Heart Elsewhere

monopoly%20game%20baord.jpg

Though this may amuse a smattering of transplants who neither want this city to grow nor evolve into the world-class city it secretly is, a new global Monopoly board is coming and San Francisco is not a part of it. You see, people of the earth get to vote to see which of the 68 world cities will make the final 22 on the global board game. San Francisco, it seems, is not on the list. In fact, California gets a pithy single nomination (Los Angeles) while France receives a shocking two (Paris and Lyon).

Naturally, we are sick to our stomach over this slight. With geographical locations whose existence we question, like "Buenos Aires, Argentina;" "Shanghai, China;" "Caracas, Venezuela;" and "Canada," we're both saddened and surprised not to find Baghdad by the Bay among the list. Hrumph, indeed.

Fear not, San Franciscans--or Oaklanders, Athertonians, or Orindaians, or whatever--there is a write-in wildcard category where you can vote up to 10 times per day for which city not in the nomination bunch will become one the properties on the board. The downside? You have to register. Alas. Anyway, you can vote here.

Gavin, this seems like your kind of issue, yes? Let's get on it, stallion.

this thing is a fucking joke

you can't nominate san francisco in our country, just butt fuck egypt versions EVEN after you go through the bullshit process of registering to vote

the ass clowns at hasbro didn't put the real san francisco in the auto complete database for that field

fuck them!!!!

Rest assured, suckafree, San Francisco, California, United States, does in fact show up in the drop down bar, along with about 6 other San Franciscos around the world (and a bunch of duplicates.) And it didn't ask for registration info until *after* you hit the nominate button. Whether or not votes are counted without registration, I dunno. But SF, CA, has been nominated.

But personally, I'm rooting for my hometown of New Orleans. Though with the current state of things down there, it would be more likely to replace Baltic Ave. than Park Place, I'm afraid.

I nominate Half Moon Bay at a price of $36 million.

suckafree, i think you're wrong, i voted for SF in the write in box. i typed "san francisco" and got a list of a couple dozen or so choices and San Francisco, California, US was one. i believe you need to sign up first. and use your real (as in junk) email address because they send you a confirmation email.

still, fuck 'em.

Um, that's not true. I was able to nominate "San Francisco, California, US" from the auto complete.

You can't do it more than once, though. Your daily ten votes are apparently ten votes for ten different cities.

I'm with Suckafree.

My browser wouldn't allow San Francisco, California, United States.

It's not so much that SF isn't a world-class city. It's that someone had the temerity to think that Vegas and DC are.

where the hell is colma?????

No where on that drop down list does our SF show up. This is a joke. Screw Monopoly.

San Francisco didn't receive enough votes because we only have 750k residents. Triple the population and then maybe we'll have a shot at being labelled a "world class" city.

Um, I'm sorry sagitta100, but you are totally wrong. San Francisco's population had nothing to do with it. Our population is larger than both Vegas and DC.

I voted and had no problem.

Agreed with mdw0526 -- population don't matter. If Las Vegas -- LAS VEGAS!!! -- makes the default list of candidates, then SF should have been on it as well.

Just no one tell Houstonist. Or (god forbid) Bostonist.

Las Vegas is the gambler's Mecca. SF doesn't have one real distinguishing feature.

"Sf doesn't have one real distinguishing feature."

Right, instead we have an absolute multitude of real distinguishing features as opposed to the Strip which isn't even technically in the city of Las Vegas!

it's a conspiracy i tell you. someone at hasbro probably hates our town for some reason. a disavowed gay son or ex-wife living here? who knows.

hasbro is dead to me!

Isn't the Hasbro Family supporting Huckabee?

[made up- no letters or research please]

maybe it's a mac/firefox bug. i cannot get it to let me enter san francisco, ca, usa in any variation for the life of me.

damn pc zealots.
