It's Got to be the Morning After

Timberwolves 109 Warriors 108- And how did the Warriors celebrate not only MLK Day but the official start of George Bush's last year in office? They lost to the worst team in the NBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves as an Al Harrington lay up in the final seconds clanged off the rim. The TWolves had lost 16 straight games on the road. Of interest is the fact that the Beard had only fifteen points and missed a couple of shots at the end of the game, this coming after spending the previous night partying in Sundance as the movie he produced, "Made in America," premiered. That might have had an effect on his performance, but we're going to let it slide as how many basketball teams feature a player who produces a documentary that makes it to Sundance?

-A few notes about Sunday's playoff games: We here at SFist have a rule about playoff games played in freezing temperatures in that whichever coach appears to be less spooked by the cold wins. Coughlin dressed like it was just a normal winter game and other than looking like he got frostbite, didn't appear to be bothered at all. Mike McCarthy, the Packers coach, dressed like Ralphie's brother in A Christmas Story. We also couldn't help notice that while Eli looked completely nonplussed by the weather, Favre looked miserable out there.

And yes, Brett Favre did play awful which shouldn't be a surprise because he often does play awful. But, of course, with him, what some call "awful," others call "being a gunslinger." Whatever. All we can say is that we are grateful to be spared a Favre/Brady Superbowl as all the attendant fawning and slurping done by every sports hack out there would have sickened us to the point we might have actually considered not eating disgustingly yummy food at a Superbowl party but thankfully, we don’t have that bridge to cross.

A 14 point spread in the Super Bowl?

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/ordine/blog/2008/01/the_game_within_the_game.html

11.5 sounds quite a bit more reasonable to me.

Hope it's not a NE blowout.

Blowout not likely. Also, as a Patriots fan, I am quite a-scared by the photos today of Brady hobbling around with one of those plastic boot casts due to some mysterious injury he suffered during the Chargers game.

That's almost certainly disinformation by Belichick.

BTW, I see SFist reads Tuesday Morning Quarterback (Cold Coach = Victory, and why Norv Turner deserved to be fired by the Raiders as well as the Redskins).

Yeah, I do read TMQ, or at least half of it as it's always too long. I also know I'm not the only who perscribes to the coaches theory of coldness, but it usually holds true. And yes, Norv was an idiot for going for the punt. I couldn't believe it, but it's partly due to the fact TMQ always does such a good job of explaining why it's always a dumb move.

I also don't think it'll be a Pats blow out-- there was a time when you always took the Pats and the spread, but lately, it's been true that you should take the under. This should be true of the 'Bowl as the Pats appear exhausted and the Giants are just coming on.

It'll still be, sadly, a Pats victory.
