Bad Driver Ohmeed Popal Pleads Not Guilty

The man suspected of mowing people down during a hit-and-run spree in August 2006 , Omeed Aziz Popal, 30, pleaded not guilty today in San Francisco Superior Court. Really.
For those of you who don't remember, Popal allegedly went after 16 pedestrians with his SUV during a 15-minute death span on the streets and sidewalks of northern San Francisco. Accused of a whopping 16 counts of attempted murder--including the murder of 54-year-old Stephen Jay Wilson, who he reportedly killed in Fremont just prior to his rampage--he already a confessed to the killings to police. But according to the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, Popal "suffers from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and auditory command hallucinations." (That is to say, he hears voices. Which we hear is an excruciating disorder.)
CBS 5 goes on to say that the will return to court on Feb, 26 "in order to set further dates in the case, including possibly setting a trial date."

I hear voices too... GUILTY!
I also hear voices...guilty...I'm sorry, as sympathetic as I might (or might not be) to his mental illness, it just wont ever supersede the sympathy I have for the people who were victims of his mental illness. Guilty guilty guilty; batshit crizazy guilty.
It's taken a year-and-a-half just to have the guy enter a plea?
Also: Do deaf people hear voices?
I hear the sound of one hand clapping.
Why should society suffer because some asshole refuses to take his meds? Send him to the slammer where prison justice can be meted out.
Just half an hour ago I saw a driver trying to get away from an incident with a mangled bike under his wheels, people were piling onto his hood and taking pictures of him and he STILL kept trying to drive off. My passenger said he had a big shit eating grin on his face. I don't know what happened, anyone got the scoop? 17th and Valencia, just before 10 PM.
flemertown, interesting story. and not the best neighborhood for someone to pull a stunt like that. might as well have done it outside of zeitgeist.
if anyone has any info/images of the melee, let us know.
Yes... he finally figured out the "voices in his head" were actually his lawyers...
