Spay/Neuter Your Pit Bull for Free This Week
Starting today, eight Bay Area shelters are offering free spaying/neutering to pit bull owners. Although a few shelters, such as the East Bay SPCA offer the free service year-round, the organizers of Bay Area Pit Fix Week are hoping that by offering spaying/neutering this week, the lives of thousands of pit bulls (and the people they otherwise might maul if not for being fixed) will be spared.
Thousands of pit bulls are euthanized in the Bay Area each year. With more and more people taking advantage of Bay Area Pit Fix Week, we may (hopefully) see this number diminish in the coming years. Spaying and neutering help pit bulls to be happier and less aggressive.
We've met so many sweet pit bulls in the past few years, owned by responsible and loving Bay Area humans. We hope that the breed's negative reputation will become more positive as more of the animals are taken care of in a responsible way. Spaying or neutering is the first step.
Here is the list of participating shelters:
- Berkeley East Bay Humane Society
- Contra Costa Animal Services, Martinez
- East Bay SPCA, Oakland and Dublin
- Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation, Walnut Creek
- Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA, San Mateo
- San Francisco SPCA
- Humane Society and SPCA of Sonoma County
- Marin Humane Society, Novato

when i heard the teaser for this story on the news this morning, i was seriously hoping they said, euthanize your pit bull for free this week.
Spurred by the transparent chihuahua fascist agenda: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsory_sterilization
>>(and the people they otherwise might maul if not for being fixed)
If that was an attempt at humor, it was really poorly done.

Thank god! The asshole community is represented on this thread.
i think she was trying to make a point scorched. i got it.
i fear this won't work however and they'll need to take the pay for guns type approach.
we'll have to pay these fuckers to spay/neuter their little timebomb killing machines.
And we get your point, suckafree. You don't like dogs.
Now run along and play while the grownups try and figure out real solutions to the problem of irresponsible animal owners.
i love dogs jerk off. i just happen to have one that is the favorite target of these ridiculous excuses for pets.
a golden retriever.
I'm guessing seeseerider is on the "It's the Zoo's fault" team in the Tatiana imbroglio, just for consistency's sake.
I love pit bulls.
Cesar Milan's pit bull "Daddy" is the best pit bull ever. Here's a hilariously cheesy tribute to "Daddy."
A golden? Wow. A large, high-energy breed combined with an owner who doesn't understand that a dog's behavior is dictated by environment and training (or lack thereof). You two must be a *joy* to be around.
