these fuckers took over the entire marina green today and diverted traffic aroudn marina boulevard. made it a bitch to get home from crissy field. even worse, they hired a bi plane advertisement banner of a picture of an aborted baby! who the fuck gave these nazi's a permit to demonstrate in our city? you might as well give one to the kkk!

I bet the Berkeley folks from this article are going to be hanging with Alveda today. It just seems SO wrongheaded for the solution to "high rates of abortion among african american women" to be "tell them god will hate them unless they have their baby." How about fighting for more opportunities for african american communities so folks who get pregnant can actually financially support the kid? How about addressing the issue of imprisonment among black men that leaves women to raise kids alone (or to decide they CAN'T raise them alone)? And in the many years before those long term goals come to pass, how about some fucking sex education to reduce the pregnancies in the first place? Sorry for the rant. I'll just take myself over to feministing now ;) Glad I'm going to be nowhere near the march...

Those shirts were part of a Planned Parenthood fundraiser, though I guess you could fine someone else selling them now. I don't understand why people thnik that educating teenagers about how the endocrine system initiates hormonal changes that induce an egg to erupt and semen to be made gets kids all hot and bothered. What about free sex ed, free birth control and free condoms to married couples who do not want kids but financially can't afford prevention? King says the best way to reduce abortions among black women is to dissuade more of them from premarital sex. Ugh, why specify black women rather than saying all women? It's as if she's saying that white women are more careful with their vaginas than black women are. Or, wait, is that what she intended to mean? And is it even inaccurate? Staying away from the race aspect is hard to do when people like Ms. King suggest weird distinctions between races.

While I don't think that sex education = permission to have sex, it does seem that sex education often focuses on how not to get pregnant or get a venereal disease rather than the psychological and emotional ramifications of sex and intimacy. As if those were the only pitfalls to having a rampant sex life.
