Malcove, I'm sure there were multiple factors in play over her suicide. I think it's pretty safe to say that the breakup was just the tip of the iceberg. There's a million + 1 single people out here. I don't understand why or how could anyone should be suicidally despondent over losing a relationship? Rebound relationships aren't always the best, but broken hearts heal better if they have something positive to focus on.

I wish some of the media coverage would take the time to discuss California's 5150. Perhaps with greater awareness of the possibility for involuntary psychiatric treatment Ms. Ruiz would not have had a gun in her possession. Further, she may have received medication and counseling to help her through her personal crisis.

Brock, I promise I am not picking on you, but the following line made me chuckle: "... she "went hiking" late last year, and was never heard from again until this week." Uhm, technically, no one has heard from her, or will hear from her ever again. Kudos to her on not taking the bridge route and for not intentionally ruining another person's hike.
