SFist Blotter (Tuesday Edition)
You get a very special blotter today. Alas.
Carrying on San Francisco's lightning-hot crime wave, a drive-by shooting occurred on the Hayes Valley/Lower Haight nexus last night. At around 6:40 p.m. at Oak and Fillmore, "[a]s many as eight bullets rang out in rapid succession during," three of them hitting a Department of Public Works truck. Yikes.
The vehicle is described as a "light-colored SUV" in hot pursuit of another car. Charming. Oh, and no injuries have been reported.

Crap. 6:40 pm at an incredibly busy intersection. This assholes are no longer restricting their shooting to late night or very early morning.
The sad part is that there is little you can do since pulling a gun and shooting it is so simple. Other than putting a cop on each corner to catch them after the fact, or getting very heavy handed in response to smaller offenses in the hopes of throwing the fucker in jail before he commits some serious damage, with the side effect of making career criminals of those so punished by a learning stint in prison rather than reforming them, I am at a loss of what we should do.
Sadly, policing can only do so much. Crime usually rises and falls in response to people's economic and social circumstances. But trying to lift them can be difficult is they are so far gone.

This city is getting really frightening. I don't have any bright ideas on how to solve the violence problem, though. More cops on patrol couldn't hurt, though.

how about treating crime like it's actually hurting society!!!
if you threaten anyone's life for personal or property gain, rob them rape them, what have you, you automatically qualify for the chair!
I'm sure this has been said before, but hey- assigning the po-po to every single corner in SF isn't going to work... maybe we could just spend the money and send some of these gang members to sniper school so they become better shots. kill each other off if ya want, fuck it, but at least learn to shoot straight.

@mariconsoy - What? I resent blaming males and music/video games/etc for this kind of violence. THAT is quite an ignorant (and sexist) viewpoint. I won't deny that men are more likely to be the instigators of violent crime, but it doesn't mean that the fact that they're men is why they're doing it. Plenty of testosterone overdriven men deal with it in perfectly non-violent ways.
Sounds like there were plenty of cars around who could have run these guys down/over.
