Early Morning Bonfire Revelers at Ocean Beach Find Dead Body

ocean%20beach.jpg

A group of people having a bonfire at Ocean Beach early this morning--in this weather?--came across the body of a dead man, which they found above the high tide line across from the Beach Chalet and Golden Gate Park. Of average height with no identification or clothes, "U.S. Park Police are investigating the death, but have few leads."

The group had their fire lit outside the designated area...and were asked by police a little before 5 a.m. to move down the beach to a legal area where there are fire pits. When they moved...they saw the body.

Rich Weidman of the National Park Service tells the Gate that "the area where the man was found is well-traveled even at night, so it's unlikely the body was there overnight." But...even in the winter? We're guessing that he means park rangers man the area overnight.
