Oh No, Ed Jew!: Year Of The Rat
Oh, so now that Ed Jew's gone from the politics scene, now the truth comes out! Leland Yee reveals to Matier and Ross that he was the person who originally called the authorities about the Quickly shakedown!
So according to Yee, he was originally contacted by the Quickly owners, and he called Dennis Herrera. Herrera was out of town and said he'd look into it when he got back. When Herrera got back, though, the owners had gone to the feds, who then took over the case. Yee called his friend Steve Gruel (who ended up representing Ed Jew until their bad breakup), who put him in touch with the feds, who called him in their investigations.
So basically, Leland Yee didn't do much. But still! Very exciting.
In sadder news, M&R also report that part of the reason why Ed took the plea bargain is that he still qualifies for COBRA coverage if he quits, but wouldn't have been able to get insurance if he'd been forced from the seat. His family needs the insurance because his wife Lisa has had a recurrence of breast cancer.
Picture of Leland Yee with Cornel West from Yee's website. Not related to story but we like the picture.

omg! wow.
also, ouch about the breast cancer. that's sad news. (i recommend lots of kombucha tea, lisa. because i'm a medical doctor, too, it seems.)

rita, it ruins the joke when you say things like this.
I suspect Leland is running damage control here... as he's the one who gave Ed Jew his first city job (right? I think that's true.) and now he wants Tom Lantos' seat in Congress. Is it wrong for me to find it all kinds of hilarious that a guy could be denied Tom Lantos' seat in Congress because of a "Jew problem"?
Oh, DJTennessee, I am going to miss the "Jew" jokes and zany "Jew" headlines so, so much.

On Saturday, the City Star went with the headline Jew Resigns.
I just spewed farfel stuffing all over my monitor when I read that one.
Frankly I wouldn't mind hearing Cornel West's take on this whole affair.
COBRA coverage is no bargain. For a family of 4 at his 100k$ salary and prior coverage it's probably 800-1000 a month?
