We have a love/hate relationship with Muni fare inspectors. We hate them when we can't find our Fast Pass or transfer stub. We love them for the entertainment they provide while busting someone else riding for free. Go figure.

It's too bad that they are all over Powell St. underground, while up streetside on the 6,7, or 71 buses the freeloaders get on the back door all day long.

yeah, the above ground fare inspectors seem to have dwindled over the past year.

I'm happy to see them ... freeloaders suck (like leeches)

Is there a "Cheater Profiling" system they use?
I've never been picked for a strip search yet...

On the other side of things, I'm always amused by those who don't need to prove fare to the drivers yet insist on doing so.

You know- a 95 year old woman with a cane who picks through her pocketbook at the farebox to find the damn "S" card as she is almost hurled thru the windshield a couple of times...

I used to see fare jumpers all the time on BART, but for the last year I can't recall seeing any.

I do see people flashing some kind of ID card all the time tha the station agents never look at, I think friends and family of BART riders get to ride free, and I'm half tempted to just start flashing my Video Droid rental card to see how long I can get away with it. Even if the fine is $500, I'll save money if I can get away with it for 60 days.

what do they do with the homeless freeloading scum?

might i suggest tossing them on the rails?

I ♥ fare inspectors.

They're like CHP's, but not.

I see fare jumpers on BART all the time too in Berkeley and Oakland. One time I saw three guys jump over three adjacent turnstiles in perfect synchronization. It was like something out of Cirque de Soleil...

Jas: you are so right. I ride those buses, too and dammit, I pay. Only 1 driver in 10 rides this week actually stopped a Back Door Freeloader. BAH.

Raise Muni fares to $3. Use the additional money to put a fare inspector on every bus, and make even more money!

In addition to being perfect lesson in abysmal public relations, MUNI's rent-a-cops, busy issuing utterly non-enforceable "tickets" to freeloaders and wasting paid-up commuters' time (as though the service itself did waste enough of a rider's time)are also no doubt pulling down salaries that barely offset the amount their efforts collect. This past Thanksgiving Day I came across four of these budding uniform fetishists working a single car of the N-Judah, roisting winos and issuing their pretend tickets (which the winos are sure to pay, of course...) These "officers" were receiving double overtime holiday pay. For this.

Yes. A most excellent use of Muni's resources.

I'd much rather see money being paid to fare cops than to these jerkwad street superintendent types. Rousting winos can at least be seen as a public service to some.

Today's example of just how useful the street sup is:

Take one two car outbound L. Hold it at West Portal. Tell the driver to become an outbound M.

Take one more two car outbound L. Allow driver to announce that the train in front is an M.

Let the confusion set in before letting anyone alight.

Next, board the train and contradict what the driver has been announcing. Shuffle everyone off the rear train who is trying to catch an L.

When anyone asks either:
- shove your hand in the person's face and tell them to shut up
- tell them to not ride the train if they don't like it

Next, blame the drivers for fucking up. Even after you've been corrected, keep blaming the drivers, and keep confusing passengers.

This went on for a good ten or so minutes before I arrived on the second train, and a good five - ten minutes after.

At least the fare cops do something productive. This jerkwad sits here at WP and with his meddling fucks up everything, and cops an attitude when doing it.

Replace MUNI fare inspectors with ICE agents. That should do it.
