After seeing The Golden Compass, I now know that the snow leopard is a stand-in for Satan in some areas of Christian Symbolism. Who'da thunk, right?

Separate zookeepers have told The Chronicle that the animal, which weighs more than 600 pounds, nearly climbed over a wall of her exhibit after zoo officials pelted her with empty tranquilizer darts in a misguided effort to harass her into a night enclosure. The incident happened around 9 p.m. the night before last week's major storm. The bear's keepers were not called in to help, the sources said. So, what, the janitors were throwing shit at her? Sheesh.

I think the zoo should have a new promotion where on random days a random animal is released and all visitors who escape safely are given a commemorative item. Added bonus, those unable to escape from animal are culled from the gene pool. Evolution in action!
