Ah, I can find a reason for finger pointing: the two identical white pickups. They look like the ones driven by the street-consuming contractor dorks who live across the street from me. Surely they can be implicated.

Nope, the fence was not anchored by cement post that killed the tree roots, #10. That cyprus is older than the house, which is really damn old, and with the ground unable to absorb all the rain, it's not surprising. If anything, that house built uphill in the '70s or '80s might have been more of an issue, but at this point, there's absolutely no reason for finger-pointing. all that matters is everyone is safe and so are the houses and that white pick up truck.

that red fence looks kinda new. i bet he put a cement post on the corner and killed quite a few roots in the process, causing this tree to come down in the next monster storm. sad.

Weather!? Isn't that something that happens to people who live in other places? We have Spring and Autumn all year long!

Rageahol, you're right. I'm from the Midwest, and I find myself getting just as cold/hot in SF as I do back home in the much more extreme seasonal weather.

I think the difference in the Bay Area is that I can walk around/take public transit everywhere, so I feel much more vulnerable to the weather than I do back home, when I only spend 30 seconds outside, in between running for the car/house/work.

It's all relative.

many, even most SFites would also be shivering in 50 degree winds. as a rule, i've noticed that they have one of the narrowest comfort ranges of any region i've come into contact with. if it dips below 68, it's "chilly" or "freezing" but if it gets above 74, it's a "heat wave."

that's a 6 degree comfort range. while lower in absolute terms than, say, my ex girlfriend who has to put on a sweater if it hits 75, it's far narrower than the comfort range of most floridians, in my experience.

If only crazy loud thunder and swirling flashes of gigantic lightning accompanied this shower, I would be most content.

Thunderstorms: the only good thing about flyover country.

To be fair, I *am* shivering and swearing I am going to freeze to death in these 50 degree winds.

Then again... I'm from Southern California.

god damn you SFites are pussies.

in FL, weather like this wouldnt even garner a second thought. you'd be out on I-95 in your deathboxes tailgating in the slow lane at 85 miles an hour like everyone else.

Wow, talk about uncanny timing! Poor trees... But funny story.

I'm glad I'm working from home today. Yikes!
