518,000 Lose Power Due to Storm, Countless Lose Patience Due to Muni Disruption

Since we're reportedly under the breeziness of "hurricane"-like winds, can we name the storm? If so, can we name it "Mary-Kate," then? Great.

In addition to shutting down the Richmond Bridge, closing the ferries, screwing with the chi of (the) 101, and getting our demin damp, Mary-Kate has so far also caused over 518,000 residents in the Bay Area to lose power. (Including the Whole Foods on Fourth Street. Bah.) A PG&E spokesperson said that some of the lost power could take as long as tomorrow morning to restore.

Damn you, Mary-Kate.

Update: In case you don't know, or have since succumb to a fatal infection while waiting for a bus, Muni has some serious service disruptions today. A (truncated) list of Muni's weather-related SNAFUs after the jump.

[Via Transit.511]

There are service disruptions throughout the city due to downed trees, signs, power lines, scaffolds, and damaged buildings. Please assume that your rail line or bus route will be delayed. The list below is as up-to-date as we can keep it, but the situation is constantly changing as blockages are resolved and new blockages occur.

So the next storm will be called Ashley?

Anyone know anything about outages in the Richmond, specifically 22nd/Geary? Just curious to know what to expect later...thanks.

Dang, I'm one of the 518k. Actually, PG&E told me they were now up to a 900k users without power. And they won't be able to restore power until tomorrow. And we don't even live in the woods, we're near dolores park.

Any websites with resources that show where power is out? If mine is, I'd like to get some candles/batteries when I leave work.

I wonder if that Whole Paycheck has a diesel generator to keep the freezers and fridges going, even though PG&E power is out.

Otherwise, that's a lot of pricey food that's going to have to get tossed out.

This is a fairly good approximation of the disruptions we'd see to MUNI with an earthquake strong enough to start knocking down weaker buildings. Imagine all of the above, plus fires, greater BART delays/shutdowns and citywide panic.
