The questions that need to be answered are: Why were sadistic thugs with weapons allowed into the zoo, after hours? Who was there to protect this rare animal from the cruelty of being attacked by cowards with high powered sling-shots repeatedly striking this caged beast? Where were the police when this animal was being tortured by these scum-bags? They were there to kill Tatiana when they should have been there to protect her in the first place. Since animal cruelty is a hall-mark of every serial killer, who knows, maybe this tiger saved some future victims life.

Um, aren't all tigers "killer tigers?" People are furious that human error and abuse lead to the death of both a rare animal and a young man. But I think the grief over Natasha's death is sort of displaced anger towards the two survivors who in all likelihood participated in some sort of activity that lead to the death of their friend and now plan on "getting rich" by suing everyone with the aid of their lawyer, Mark Gorgoroth...

Attacking and killing a human is like your or me microwaving a burrito - not a crime like a premeditated assasination of public officials. I don't think your analogy is 100% appropriate. It's pretty clear now that both are victims of the two (possibly three) asshats to did the taunting.
