Tom Lantos Stepping Down

lantos_official_color.jpgNews from the non-Nancy Pelosi side of the San Francisco House of Representatives delegation -- Tom Lantos, the fourteen-term representative for the Sunset, along with northern San Mateo County, has announced that he will not be seeking reelection, because he's been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Jackie "Jonestown survivor" Speier is considered the early favorite to fill Lantos's seat, and reliable object of fun Leland Yee is reported to be considering a run as well.

Lantos, who turns 80 this year, is a Holocaust survivor, chairs the House Committee on Foreign Relations (that's gotta be an interesting gig), recently attacked Yahoo for releasing user names to China, and has seventeen grandchildren. (Also, Lantos's wife is a first cousin of the Gabor sisters, which makes him some kind of relation of Paris Hilton's.) Best wishes on a full recovery, Tom.

Tom Lantos totally reads this blog.

If this sets off a chain reaction as Every Freakin' Democrat in SF and San Mateo County runs for this seat, it may mean a house cleaning in June of several seats.

Pray for a big massive fight between the vultures and hopefully the ensuing battle will allow for many many many robocalls to you, the hapless voter. Oh and don't forget the mail! and the TV Ads!

Fun fun fun. Add to it the Cindy Sheehan/Hugo Chavez sideshow, and the usual nonsense from Migden/Leno, and the next 6 months are going to be noisY!

I think it is about time he retires...he does not answer mail. He is offensive and dismissive to the anti Iraq war movement. It is time to clean house and send a message to this entire group or their potential replacements. Praise the guy all you want his time has come and gone.
