Sausalito = Free Rides on New Year's Eve! What Up, SF?

DSCN1649a1a.jpgThere we were on Bridgeway today looking for the Cetacean Institute from Star Trek IV, when we came across this notice. Larger shot here.

It seems residents of Sausalito can get a free ride during New Year's courtesy of the city. They'll have two vans ferrying people about. How nice. Read all about in the MSM either here or here.

San Francisco's population is about a hundred times bigger, so we ought to have 200 vans zooming around. Wouldn't that be sweet? Then you'd have an option when drivers of illegal limousines offer to take you to Union Square for $40. (Or, for that matter, when licensed San Francisco taxi drivers commit misdemeanors by quoting $20 up front for what would be a seven dollar ride using the meter.)

What's that? Muni is offering free rides in San Francisco on New Year's as well? That's nice and all, but in Sausalito they're going to come right to your house. Now that's hospitality. Just think, we could have the 200 free vans and MUNI working side by side.

Make it so!

I agree... the City should hand out taxi vouchers for everyone. What's a few more million dollars when the City already is looking at cuts in state money because the state's budget is in the red and a $4.9 billion unfunded retiree healthcare liability. We can just charge way more in fees for stuff to make up the balance... $2,000 to get that towed car, $5,000 for speeding ... so on and so forth ... it will all work out cuz Tom Ammiano says it will. snark

Aren't offclock limos a god-given perk of living in a major city?

Well, if the limos had insurance, that would be nice.

Why do drunks and drunk addicts seem to think that they "deserve" assistance? get your own drunk ass home, you don't deserve any help.

Don't think the Sausalito's govmint expects to transport the entire city, but they DO want to send a message.

Weaving down Bridgeway just after midnight will most likely get you a field sobriety check anwyay.

Good news!

Don't drink and drive. AAA is offering inebriated drivers free tows and rides of up to five miles between 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and 6 a.m. Christmas morning, and between 6 p.m. New Year's Eve and 6 a.m. New Year's Day in Northern California, Nevada and Utah. Call (800) 222-4357 and ask the operator for a "tipsy tow." AND! you don't have to have a AAA membership to participate.

Enjoy.

Can I get a AAA ride sober? I need some groceries.

Fercryinoutloud, Sausalito's the size of a postage stamp. You can stagger from one end of town to another in 5 minutes.

Where is a taxi $7 in SF? The rates went up this year, and it costs me $10 just to get from the Financial District to CalTrain (I *do* leave a tip).
