This Week in Le Rock: December 24-30

DivisionDay_FullMap.jpgGearing up for the big New Year's Eve bash, several artists are playing mini-residencies (two or three night stays) this weekend including: Cracker, The Radiators and ALO. If you schedule correctly, you could probably see everything that you want. Though New Year's Eve has some rocking concerts, we are going to cover those shows later in the week.

For now, let's focus on Popscene's continued success in picking the perfect bands for their Thursday night soirées at 330 Ritch Street. Though they didn't make the Popscene's Top 20 Hottest Acts, this week it's L.A.'s indie-rock band, Division Day. (Maybe they'll have a chance for next year's list!) Division Day has had a full schedule this year: releasing several awesome remixes including Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence", touring across the country making stops in San Francisco earlier in September and released a new CD entitled, Beartrap Island. They're on a roll and it's time to celebrate their successes; they'll be partying over at Popscene on Thursday.

Saturday includes one of our favorite San Francisco's artists, Persephone's Bees. With the 2006 release of Notes from the Underworld, Persephone's Bees are still gaining a lot of attraction from their quirky Russian-influenced pop music. They just recorded the "Little Boxes" theme song from the hit Showtime TV show, "Weeds" which aired in October. The best part about this is they are opening for The Psychedelic Furs, the punk-rockers from the late seventies into the early nineties. They're back and they are still rocking thirty years later. Damn.

Take the jump for a full listing...

I saw the Persephone's Bees play with the Devil-Ettes a couple years ago, and they might have been my favorite just-heard-out-of-the-blue local act I've seen here. If my booze-and-drug-addled recommendations mean anything to you.

Of course your booze-and-drug-addled recommendations mean something to us... we're happy to hear that you, in fact, dug p.b.'s.
