The Wizard of Oz + the San Francisco Symphony = All Kinds of Cheer

Well, this sounds like the perfect (and perfectly frightening) holiday entertainment for both kiddies and adults.

On December 20, 21, and 22 the San Francisco Symphony will perform the entire Harold Arlen ("Harold, darling -- stand up!") and E.Y. "Yip" Harburg score to The Wizard of Oz right in the comfort and holiday splendor of Davies Symphony Hall. And although Rufus Wainwright will not be there to cover Garland's tunes while sporting a blue gingham dress, the 1939 classic will, instead, screen right above the stage in its entirety. Wonderful. (Sure beats watching it in the park during this awesome awful weather we're having, doesn't it?)

What's more, the lobbies of the Hall will be decorated like the Emerald City, Emerald City-themed drinks will be found at the, and Greg and Fernando from 92.7 FM will judge a costume contest. Put on your creativity caps, folks.

What: The Wizard of Oz with Live Orchestra (Constantine Kitsopoulos, conducts)
Where: Davies Symphony Hall
When: 12/20 (7p), 12/21 (7p), and 12/22 (2p)
Cost: Adult $28-55; child 12-and-under $14-27.50

I heard they would be performing "Dark Side of the Moon."
